Weekend work

Over the weekend we had to copy a painting by Lucian Freud. I did the one above. I admit I struggled with it. I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to this sort of thing, even though you cant be perfect when Freud used oils and spent years on each painting and I am using acrylics and I am only supposed to be spending no more than three hours on it.
The assignment was supposed to make us more aware of colour and the direction of brushstrokes.

Palette Kinfe

A painting from last Friday done with a palette knife. Its a close up of one of those push along toys of a dog. I had alot of fun doing this. It was very free and relaxing. I've never really used a palette knife before so I was pleased with it in the end.

2nd Session of Life Painting

This went very badly. I had an awful time with the blanket he was lying on. Trying to break it down into shapes, simplifying and so forth. I also had to go back and do a bunch of  alterations, after the break since he moved. So in the end I ended up rushing it and still didn't get to finish it. It annoying really since I was really enjoying the models pose. I liked all the angles and shapes of his body, for me it was a fun pose to paint. I just wish it didn't get so rushed in the end..

2nd Installation Painting

Another terrible painting.
I've never felt less like a painter when doing these installations, I feel like I can do so much better.
Hopefully it will pass as acceptable.
I'm not happy with the colours, I find them boring and a bit dull, I need to change my view for something fresher and brighter!

That Terrible Green

This is my first terrible installation painting. I tried to take a photo of the view i was looking at, but it isn't exactly right, but you get the gist of it. The green in the background really threw me off, its an impossible colour that I have been struggling with.
Hopefully i will get better as the weeks go on. Its really all about tone/colour, shape, form and brushwork.
Not really about getting it exact, in away..
But being the way I am all I can see is what I'm doing wrong, and so forth.
My own private battle with colour and depth, that I'm pretty sure everyone else is experiencing as well!

An installation of evil

This my view of the installation we have to paint. Not the whole thing, we just have to zoom in to bits of it.
Its all about getting the right colours/tones, brushstrokes and so forth.
I cant wait to demolish it!

Life painting

The painting from my first session of life painting.
I enjoyed it alot more than I thought I would. Admittedly I was dreading it, as I never really enjoyed life drawing.
In painting, i found i very easy to see the different tones, and the different shapes that make up the figure.
I didn't use a pencil at all to draw out the figure, just a brush with watered down paint. The only bit that really bothers me is that the torso is very long, and his left leg is a bit short, but besides that I was really pleased with it.
