Belated Pin-hole Photo's

The majority of these photos are from the matchbox pinhole camera I made. The last image of the bath tub was taken with the large box pin hole camera. I'm afraid the image quality is very poor as they are only photos of photos. I don't trust my scanner and computer, they are very slow. The majority of these have nothing very recognizable in them, so they are very abstract, but still make a nice image. Some of them were double exposed, meaning i took two photos of different things without rolling the film on. My favorites are the trees and the bathtub!

Can you see the face? Weird isn't it?! I have no idea how that got there!

Chan Marshall

Its almost like a pinprick; it's like the pupils in someone's eyes.
If you really stare into them, you go beyond their head, into the universe.
There's a little bit of space that's behind your brain.
When I'm playing and my eyes roll into the back of my head, I'm trying to get to the back of my mind, because that is where I daydream.
I can see images and I don't really have any control.
I'm trying to get close to that experience when I'm up there on stage ---
this thread that were all joined to through our eyes.
People talk about auras and things like that, but I guess I'm just trying to be almost without a body, or without a mind, to get to that one note and let it just live.
I like to find something in the song that makes me feel safe or free or relaxed.
I try so hard to hold onto that moment.

Summer

My Space for my assessment
So my assessment is over, I think it went well, I am now in printmaking officially so thats a relief. I am much happier with this choice and I am looking forward to creating and learning over the next three years.
We have to keep a sketchbook over the summer, which will be nice. I dont think we have to keep the blog updated, and I'm not sure if we shall be continuing it for the next three years, but even if we are not I would like to keep it going. Might as well since I have spent a year on it so far. Its a good habit to have, especially since the internet is one of the artists greatest rescources. I still have some images to put up from past projects, for example the images that I produced with the pinhole cameras I made back in the two week sculpture course. Also I need to put up my Berlin sketchbook.
All in all tis been a good year, but I am looking forward to the summer. It will be nice to come back next year feeling refreshed and full of new insperation.
So anyway watch this space, for I am sure there wil be more to come!

Tracey Emin and Louise Bourgeois

Emin Bourgeois
'Do Not Abandon Me'

A collaborative Piece that I just love, by Tracey Emin and Louise Bourgeois. There are several pieces in this series, but I think this is my favorite. They were completed shortly before Louise Bourgeois death, but werent exhibited until after her death. The torso is done in Gouache by Louise Bourgeois, and the text is done in pencil by Tracey Emin.

The Adventuress

This is a great book that I found in the public library in Dooradoyle. The author Audrey Niffenegger started creating and binding her own books back in college were she studied print. The prints in this book are all hand etched and aqua-tint has been used. There is a wonderful simplicity about it. Its one of those books that you would love to have on your book shelf. I will have to keep a look out for it as well as some of her other books...

Product Description

The author of the New York Times bestseller The Time Traveler’s Wife returns with another evocative “novel in pictures,” the much-anticipated follow-up to 2005’s The Three Incestuous Sisters. The Adventuress follows the dreamlike journey of an alchemist’s daughter. After she is kidnapped by a lascivious baron, she turns herself into a moth and flees to the garden of a charming butterfly collector named Napoleon Bonaparte. The story of how the two become lovers, and how their affair ends in tragedy and transcendence, is told through Niffenegger’s spare prose and haunting aquatint etchings. With a stunning and distinctive visual style reminiscent of the work of Edward Gorey, this Gothic romance packs the emotional heft of the world’s great fairy tales. It will delight fans of the author’s previous works and enchant an entirely new legion of readers.
I took some very bad photos of the prints inside the book.

The Birth of Maurice

Fawn

Self portrait. I was thinking about adding pressed flowers were the hair should be, but I havent settled on that one yet. I'll probably try it on one of them just to say I did. I really like what they look like with that small bit of colour. Theres a marble in her eye.

First Print

Added a bit of colour with tissue paper, same goes for the others below.

I started out printing this image on black tissue paper, but it dident really work out.

The plate

cat

We have six cats, some bring in birds and mice and kill them under my bed or in the bathtub....

I wasn't very happy with how this came out, it was one of the first plates I did. I didnt  position the text very well. If I had more time I would of done more with it, The only thing I did do after the first print is that I went back in and etched more into the plate, you may be able to see it in the first image were i added more hair to the cat. The lines are alot finer.

Second etching

First etching

Sketch

Blue Skull

Again added a bit of tissue paper for colour.

Naturla Curves

These Natural Curves are all mine.....

Mouse

Again a small bit of colour added with tissue paper. This technique has a special name, but i cant remember it for the life of me! It sound like chili con carnie!

P.S. its called Chine Collé

Marbles

Find Your Marbles......

Tracey Emin

I read an article on Tracey Emin over the weekend. I didn't know much about her before. But now after reading her article I think I appreciate and understand her work alot more than before.

Kiki Smith

Just posting some images by a Print maker called Kiki Smith. So far she is probably one of my favorite print makers!

This is her dead cat. When it died she brought it into the print room, placed it on the light box and traced it!
This is one cool lady! Plus she really loved this cat that's why she did it.

She is also a really good sculpture!
