Along Came a Spider..

This is my first etching. I've changed my project slightly, its still the mind, but I focusing it more on my dreams which is what I wished I did from the start..
I was happy with how this image came out. The acid did lift away some of the lines way to much but it still came out better than I thought it would. I wanted delicate lines the whole way through, but it still works. I think I want to try and focus a bit more on the spider in the image;  unfortunately spiders are something I tend to dream about a lot..
Its bad because I don't care for them, but good as spiders are supposed to resemble creativity..

Photography- Semester one

For my photography class we had to base our project along the lines of our print project. So I based mine around the mind and dreams.

I took a chair and placed it in random out of place areas. Trying to create surreal dream like images. Although the imagery isn't the same as my prints the idea is along the same lines.

Lythogrophy 2

This is my second attempt at lithography. I have to say I am much happier with this print. At least the detail wasn't lost.

I did go back and try to drop colour behind it with mono-print, but decided that this just didn't suit. I like it how it is and feel it works very well that way. Adding colour just muddies the image.

I know I need to experiment a bit more, and I am sure I will with time. Nothing has really clicked for me yet, but we shall see..

Lythography

The Lytho room

I did my first Lytho the other day. It seemed to me, anyway, a long process. I found it very unsatisfactory. It is definitely something that one needs to study and practice.
The image I had in my head did not turn out the way I wanted it to. The crayons are bulky and hard to fine down.
The image became to dark, loosing all detail.
I'm afraid this is something that I am looking forward to moving away from.

Dublin Contemporary 2011

Last week we had to go on a class trip to Dublin contemporary. 'The title and theme of Dublin Contemporary 2011 is Terrible Beauty—Art, Crisis, Change & The Office of Non-Compliance. Its taken from William Butler Yeats’ famous poem “Easter, 1916”, the exhibition’s title borrows from the Irish writer’s seminal response to turn-of-the-century political events to site art’s underused potential for commenting symbolically on the world’s societal, cultural and economic triumphs and ills.'
The main exhibitions were at Earlsfort Terrace, which used to be an old medical and engineering college. The building itself was massive, and very impressive. Everything had been left as it was when it was still a college. Paint was peeling off the walls, there were still chalk boards in certain rooms and so forth. The only rooms that were painted were the ones that were requested by the artist. For all the time I was here I didn't even get to see half of the exhibitions, and I say only half of the building was open the public. 
Over all it was very interesting, even though the majority of the exhibitions werent really my tatse. It was mostly video, installation, and sculpture.
All I can say to sum it all up is, Who knew rubbish could be beautiful..

Print, Semester 1, Year 1

There are two projects this semester, we had to choose one at random from a 'hat',(pile of folded paper). I choose project #2. The title of the project is;

 'Spaces, Structures, Systems; Abstraction and Figuration, Help Build New Worlds.'

After various mind maps, I focused on 'Spaces,' and the words I related with this word.

 So I am working with empty space, which led to 'loneliness', which led to 'depression,' and the 'human mind.' The idea of being lost in your head and caught up with emotion.

I wasn't really sure if my drawings would be sufficient, but after talking with my tutor this morning, I feel somewhat more confident with what I am doing.

So we shall See how it goes.

This was the first image I did, I was working along the same idea, but was focusing more on dreams and insomnia, but that is an idea I would like to work on when I have more time.

Stirring up a mindful of hornets

I like the idea of using the hornets nest to represent the mind, and all the thoughts buzzing around, going crazy.

I am much happier with the two above images. I simplified the swarm of thoughts into scribbles, instead of actual wasps.

I will use this two images first.
